Pumpkin Picking at Rainfords Farm: What to Expect
Pumpkin picking should feel like an autumn adventure, not a complicated day out. At Rainfords Farm near St Helens, our pumpkins are grown here on the farm and brought into an enclosed picking area beside the Barn when they are ready.
Do you need to book?
You do not need to book for ordinary pumpkin picking. There is no general entry fee: you simply pay for the pumpkins you choose and any optional activities. Ticketed events, workshops and organised group visits are separate, so always check the event information before travelling for something specific.
How pumpkin picking works
- Park on site and follow signs towards the Barn and picking area.
- Pick up a large or child-sized wheelbarrow.
- Explore the different colours, sizes and shapes.
- Use the farm price guide and pay for the pumpkins you want to take home.
What should you wear?
The enclosed area means you are not walking through muddy crop rows, but this is still an outdoor farm visit on grass. Check the weather, bring a waterproof layer and choose footwear that can cope with damp ground after rain.
What else is there to do?
Seasonal activities may include pumpkin carving, painting, trails and workshops. The retail Barn carries autumn and Halloween decorations, our in-house florist creates seasonal pieces, and the café makes it easy to turn your visit into a relaxed family day out.
Visiting with children
Let children compare shapes and colours rather than rushing to the first orange pumpkin. A smaller pumpkin is easier for little hands to carry and paint, while older children may enjoy choosing a larger carving pumpkin. Children must be supervised around carving tools and farm vehicles.
Accessibility and dogs
The picking area is grassed, so wheelchairs and prams may find it more difficult after wet weather. Contact the team if you would like to discuss access before visiting. Dogs cannot enter the Barn or pumpkin area, but a dedicated fenced dog area is available nearby.
